Public School Academies

There are 89 Public School Academies (PSAs) in Wayne County serving 49, 550 students. Based on the 2008-09 Unaudited State aid Membership, this population represents 15% of the county's 320,000 students. Wayne RESA is proud to be the first ISD to institute a rigorous and continuous annual oversight review process of PSAs in its region. A comprehensive handbook has been produced and shared with currently authorized charter schools, Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and fellow authorizers throughout the state.

RESA Chartered PSA's

In 1995, RESA became the first ISD in Michigan to authorize, or charter a public school academy. Casa Richard Academy (formerly known as Ser Casa Academy), was RESA's first authorized PSA. It was authorized with the goal of serving at-risk students, who have either dropped out or have been suspended from traditional high schools. Our seven authorized academies are Blanche K. Bruce Strict Discipline Academy, Casa Richard Academy, Creative Montessori Academy, Detroit Midtown Academy, Henry Ford Academy, McGivney School Detroit, and Lincoln-King Academy..
